Content Wave, the operator of the online video service (OTT) Wave, announced on the 20th that it has signed a large-scale content supply contract with HBO. Through this contract, Wave will provide HBO's major content such as dramas and documentaries for one year. The plan is to leverage the partnership with HBO to secure a competitive edge in content.
Accordingly, major works such as the fantasy series 'Game of Thrones,' which became the highest hit ever, 'Band of Brothers,' ranked 3rd among TV series on the movie information site IMDB with a rating of 9.4, and the series 'Chernobyl,' which reconstructs the nuclear explosion incident, will be sequentially updated on Wave starting July 22.
Wave also secured exclusive rights to provide HBO's major works through this contract. The latest series including 'Watchmen,' 'Undoing' starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant, and HBO's recent Stephen King thriller 'The Outsider,' as well as the new season of 'Euphoria,' which is scheduled to air soon in the US, will be exclusively premiered on Wave in Korea.
In addition, HBO Asia's original works such as the Japanese drama 'Miss Sherlock,' Taiwanese dramas 'The Teenage Psychic,' and 'Adventure of the Ring' will also be sequentially released.
Since its launch in 2019, Wave has exclusively provided popular dramas from major overseas studios such as NBCU, CBS, and MGM.
Kim Hong-gi, Head of Wave Content Group, said, "In addition to the approximately 1,000 overseas major studio dramas currently exclusively provided, we plan to add a large number of HBO's major works to the exclusive lineup," adding, "We hope the additional classic dramas will be a great gift to Wave users."
