[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Integrated security platform company Genieons and Fortinet Korea, a leading company in the extensive and automated integrated cybersecurity field, have completed the development of security solutions specialized for remote work corporate environments and are pioneering the market.
On the 19th, Genieons and Fortinet Korea signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for strategic business cooperation at Fortinet Korea’s headquarters in Samseong-dong, Seoul.
As remote and telecommuting work has expanded due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, security threats from internal corporate networks, terminals, and users have increased. Among the main causes of major security breaches in the first half of the year, 20.5% were attacks due to increased VPN usage from remote work. Globally, sophisticated hacking techniques combined with phishing and social engineering-based APT attacks, as well as hacking incidents exploiting VPN device vulnerabilities, demand advanced security solutions in the era of telecommuting.
Genieons and Fortinet have completed the integration of remote work security solutions that comply with the National Information Security Basic Guidelines and the Financial Supervisory Service’s Electronic Financial Supervision Regulations Enforcement Rules. They combined Fortinet’s high-performance VPN with Genieons’ NAC solution’s powerful endpoint security features. This enables real-time compliance checks and control, as well as system resource and status monitoring for terminals located remotely. After checking the security status of the terminal, VPN connection is allowed; general internet access is blocked during VPN connection; strong additional authentication is applied; and in case of security policy violations, the VPN is forcibly disconnected, enabling the construction of systems for telecommuters.
Genieons and Fortinet plan to increase synergy in creating new business opportunities through partner companies capable of technical support for both companies’ products, including SecureOne. They plan to conduct joint marketing such as webinars and customer experience center operations targeting the secondary financial sector, hospitals, and mid-sized companies.
Lee Dongbeom, CEO of Genieons, said, "We are now able to present customers with a sophisticated and secure telecommuting environment standard in cooperation with Fortinet," adding, "We will further strengthen cooperation in next-generation security fields so that customers can use services safely and easily anytime and anywhere."
Jo Wonkyun, head of Fortinet Korea, said, "The era where telecommuting and remote work have become the new normal due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic has arrived." He added, "We will provide integrated solutions that offer a strong security environment tailored to the diverse security requirements of existing and potential customers."
