[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] Online bookstore Yes24 has acquired the musical magazine 'The Musical,' which announced its suspension after the December issue last year.
On the 19th, Yes24 stated, "We have acquired the musical magazine 'The Musical' from the performance company Clip Service and plan to republish it by the end of this year." Following the operation of the performance ticket reservation platform 'Yes24 Ticket' and the Daehangno performance venue 'Yes24 Stage,' Yes24 intends to actively expand its performance-related business.
The returning 'The Musical' will have Yes24 CEO Seokhwan Kim as the publisher. The current editor-in-chief, Kyunghui Bae, will continue in her role. As it embarks on a new leap, the magazine will undergo a reorganization period including new staff recruitment and design renewal before its official republishing. The online homepage, which was suspended along with the magazine, will also be renewed and newly opened.
Yes24 CEO Seokhwan Kim said, "We expect that the various services Yes24 has provided in the book and performance sectors will create a good synergy effect when combined with the musical magazine 'The Musical.' We will continue to offer richer and more beneficial performance information and benefits to Yes24 users and contribute to the overall development of the musical industry."
Editor-in-chief Kyunghui Bae stated, "Along with publishing a monthly magazine that provides specialized information through in-depth coverage, we plan to keep pace with the changing media environment by reorganizing online services and promoting video content production. While the previous 'The Musical' led in introducing famous overseas musicals to Korea, going forward, we aim to contribute to promoting domestic original musicals overseas and establish ourselves as the leading media outlet in the Asian musical market."
'The Musical' is a musical magazine founded in 2000 and was published monthly by the performance company Clip Service. Over the past 20 years, excluding the preparatory issue, a total of 207 issues were published. However, due to financial difficulties caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, it entered an indefinite suspension after the December issue last year.
