[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The Japanese government has invoked the "Olympic spirit" regarding a cheer message based on the sayings of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, which was hung in front of the residence building of the Korean athletes' village for the Tokyo Olympics.
Katsunobu Kato, Chief Cabinet Secretary and spokesperson for the Japanese government, responded at a regular press conference in the afternoon to questions about Japan's response to this issue by saying, "The management of the athletes' village will be appropriately handled by the organizing committee," but added, "We expect all participants in the Tokyo Games to act in accordance with the Olympic and Paralympic spirit."
Regarding a Fuji TV reporter's remark that this issue constitutes political propaganda prohibited by the Olympic Charter, Secretary Kato made no further comment.
