According to Kyodo News and other foreign media on the 16th, the UN Secretary-General's spokesperson office stated, "There are no plans for Secretary-General Guterres to visit the Tokyo Olympics."
Secretary-General Guterres had been coordinating with the Japanese government to attend the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics, but it is reported that he has finally decided not to participate.
The Tokyo Olympics are scheduled to open on the 23rd. So far, the only foreign head of state confirmed to attend the Tokyo Olympics is French President Emmanuel Macron. France is scheduled to host the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.
