[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency announced on the 16th that "on the 15th from 10 PM for two hours, drunk driving crackdowns were conducted at 14 locations within the jurisdiction, including vulnerable spots for drunk driving and the Suwon IC on the Metropolitan Area 1st Circular Expressway."


As a result of the crackdown, 8 drunk drivers were caught. Among them, 5 had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or higher, which is the license cancellation threshold, and 3 had a BAC between 0.03% and less than 0.08%, which is the suspension threshold. The highest detected BAC was 0.186%.


A total of 154 police officers and 47 vehicles from 13 police stations within the jurisdiction and the Highway Patrol Unit were mobilized for this operation.


The Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency plans to strengthen the continuous drunk driving crackdown system by conducting spot checks year-round without distinction between day and night to prevent drunk driving accidents.
