A New Beginning! Changing Volunteerism!

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The Suncheon Volunteer Center (Chairman Lee Geum-ok, Director Moon Eung-yeon) officially launched as a corporation last January to spread volunteer culture and encourage continuous activities of volunteers.

Suncheon City announced on the 16th that it held a relocation opening ceremony the day before to create a warm Suncheon City together with about 80,000 volunteers.

The opening ceremony was held with the attendance of Suncheon Mayor Heo Seok, Suncheon City Council Chairman Heo Yu-in, heads of related organizations such as the Jeonnam Volunteer Center and Volunteer Council, and about 50 volunteers.

The new home is located at 61 Deokam-gil (the former Deokyeon-dong Community Center building). The first floor is used for offices, meeting rooms, and laundry rooms; the second floor serves as the center's training room for volunteers and organizations; and the third floor is currently used by the Deokyeon-dong Reserve Forces 2nd Battalion.

The center is currently running volunteer programs such as the Truly Good Love Meal Truck, support for revitalizing volunteer organizations, and volunteer insurance premium support projects. At the end of April this year, it was selected for an external public offering project to provide emotional support and goods support services through connections between volunteer organizations and recipients.

Moon Eung-yeon, Director of the Suncheon Volunteer Center, said, “We will actively support about 80,000 volunteers to smoothly carry out volunteer activities in the new home,” and added, “The Volunteer Center will contribute to making Suncheon a warmer and happier city through volunteering.”

Meanwhile, the Suncheon Volunteer Center was first established on September 14, 1996, as the first in Jeonnam Province. After holding the founding members' meeting and inaugural general meeting of the newly formed Suncheon Volunteer Center corporation on October 26 last year, it was registered as a corporation on December 28.

Professor Lee Geum-ok of the Law Department at Suncheon National University was appointed as the first chairman, and the center is composed of 15 directors and 2 auditors.
