[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Yoon Ho-jung, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, proposed holding a parliamentary hearing on the case of witness tampering related to former Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook. This was in response to former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's remark that "if you feel wronged, you can apply for a retrial," and he also challenged Yoon to come to the National Assembly and state his position.

On the 16th, at the Supreme Council meeting, Floor Leader Yoon said, "As Yoon Seok-yeol, the preliminary candidate, claims, there is no need to go for a retrial," and added, "Let's push for a legislative hearing in the Judiciary Committee on how much prosecutorial investigation rights have been abused, regarding the amendment bill to the Prosecutors' Office Act."

He continued, "At the legislative hearing, let's summon the persons involved in the controversial witness tampering case as witnesses to clarify the facts. If Yoon Seok-yeol is also selected as a witness, he should come to the National Assembly and make his claims," and said, "I propose that we create an opportunity to reaffirm why the investigation and prosecution rights of the prosecution should be separated through another legislative hearing."

Former Prosecutor General Yoon responded the previous night on Facebook, saying, "The Supreme Court also found no problems in the investigation process and confirmed the guilty verdict on illegal political funds in a full bench decision. No illegality was revealed in the investigation process even during the excessive inspection led by the current administration," and added, "If Han Myeong-sook did not receive illegal political funds and feels the Supreme Court's guilty verdict is so unfair, she can apply for a retrial."

In response, Floor Leader Yoon said, "Is this something that the very person who directly obstructed the inspection as Prosecutor General can say? I don't know if this is Makgeolli or words," and added, "Since the statute of limitations of 10 years has already expired, prosecution is impossible, and because the prosecutors who obstructed the inspection and Yoon himself, who ordered the obstruction, have resigned, there is no one to discipline, is there?"

He further said, "Wasn't this originally a case where special prosecutors, including Prosecutor Yoon Seok-yeol, fabricated guilt under the MB administration's commission? And in return, wasn't there a political deal to cover up cases related to relatives of someone like Yoon Seok-yeol among the special prosecutors?"

Floor Leader Yoon said, "I deeply regret that preliminary candidate Yoon Seok-yeol does not properly recognize his past and is making unreasonable claims."
