[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province will hold the 'Bucheon International Youth Non-face-to-face Exchange Event' from August 10, starting with a welcoming ceremony on the 28th.
The Bucheon International Youth Homestay Exchange Event, which was held biennially, will be conducted online this year due to the impact of COVID-19.
The event will include 60 youths from six cities in five countries?Harbin and Weihai in China, Okayama in Japan, Khabarovsk in Russia, Bakersfield in the United States, and Valenzuela in the Philippines?as well as 60 youths from Bucheon City.
The slogan of this event is 'B(Bucheon) with U(You),' meaning 'Bucheon is with you.'
Bucheon City has prepared various programs for youths to learn about each other's cultures by participating in activities such as learning Taekwondo with foreign friends via real-time video apps from their homes, live city tours, and meetings with cartoonists and b-boys.
Participating youths are communicating with each other through Instagram and taking part in various pre-events. The Instagram account operates in Korean and English, and major program schedules are also posted in Chinese, Japanese, and Russian.
Youths and citizens interested in international exchange can join the conversation by accessing the 'Bucheon International Exchange Instagram (biec_with_u)'.
A Bucheon City official stated, "Despite the COVID-19 situation, we hope that through this event, domestic youths will continue active exchange activities with overseas youths and grow as global citizens."
