[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun (Governor Yu Gisang) announced on the 16th that it held the '2021 Gochang Studies Academic Conference' at Dongri Gugakdang under the theme of 'Gochang's Pungnyu Culture, Traditional Songs Transmission, and Cultural Revitalization Measures.'
This academic conference expanded the horizon of Gochang's literature and arts through in-depth topics such as Gochang's Pungnyu, traditional songs, and Seonunsangok.
Professor Kim Ikdu of Jeonbuk National University said, "The folk songs of the Gochang region are distinctly divided between the coastal areas of Simwon, Haeri, and Sangha, and the inland agricultural areas, and the traditional folk songs of these two regions have been variously distributed and transmitted," adding, "The regional folk songs should be designated as intangible cultural assets of Gochang-gun as soon as possible for preservation and transmission."
Professor Na Kyungsoo of Chonnam National University stated, "The nationwide traditional children's song 'Saeya Saeya Parangsaeya' holds historical and regional rights that allow the county to exercise exclusive monopoly rights," and added, "It should be used as an item to further promote Gochang, the sacred site of the Donghak Peasant Revolution."
The Gochang Studies Academic Conference, now in its third year, was held online again this year following last year due to the spread of COVID-19.
Governor Yu Gisang said, "Regional studies will organize and integrate various resources of Gochang to discover stories unique to Gochang and allow people to experience and enjoy the richness of everyday life," adding, "We will actively lead resident participation and revitalize Gochang studies research."
