Actor Robert Downey Jr., who gained worldwide fame for playing Iron Man, will appear in a drama directed by Park Chan-wook.

According to the American entertainment media Deadline on the 15th (local time), Downey Jr. was recently cast in 'The Sympathizer,' co-produced by A24, HBO, and Moho Film. The work explores the hidden sides of Vietnamese and American societies through the eyes of a double agent shortly after the Vietnam War. The original work is a novel of the same name by Vietnamese-American author Viet Thanh Nguyen. It skillfully employs sharp and satirical prose and experimental literary devices, winning the Pulitzer Prize in 2016.

Director Park has been preparing the drama adaptation since October 2019, exchanging ideas with Nguyen. He will co-direct with screenwriter and actor Don McKellar. Newly joining the project, Downey Jr. will also participate as a producer alongside his wife, Susan Downey.

Downey Jr. said, "I look forward to Park Chan-wook's creative production process," adding, "I believe it will be stimulating for me as I take on a complex role."
