[This Person] Yuseonghun, Geumcheon District Mayor, Why Did He Devote Himself to Customized COVID-19 Prevention and Comprehensive Heatwave Measures?

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Recently, as the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases continues to rise daily, mainly in the metropolitan area, Yuseonghun, the mayor of Geumcheon-gu, is inspecting the COVID-19 emergency response system in accordance with the government's Level 4 social distancing policy, focusing on special quarantine measures for entertainment facilities, religious facilities, and others.

On the 15th, Yuseonghun visited the temporary screening clinic at ‘Doksan Health Branch’ in Doksan 3-dong to check the operation status and encourage the staff.

The ‘Doksan Branch Temporary Screening Clinic’ was additionally established to proactively respond to the 4th wave of COVID-19, and Geumcheon-gu operates a total of three screening clinics.

Additionally, Mayor Yuseonghun is also putting effort into managing residents' health during the summer season, which is expected to bring intense heat.

The district is implementing the ‘2021 Summer Heatwave Comprehensive Measures’ until September 30 to protect the safety and health of residents from heatwaves and to help them have a safe summer.

Depending on the situation, the heatwave management system operates in three stages: ‘normal times,’ ‘heatwave warning,’ and ‘emergency.’

Furthermore, the district is promoting safety management measures for vulnerable groups such as ‘elderly living alone and those with mobility difficulties,’ ‘homeless people on the streets,’ and outdoor workers at large construction sites and other workplaces.

To this end, an emergency medical system is established in cooperation with related organizations such as fire stations and large hospitals, and seven welfare centers (including welfare centers) and ten community service centers operate cooling shelters. Due to the Level 4 social distancing measures for COVID-19, senior citizen centers originally planned to operate have been excluded.

The cooling shelters comply with quarantine rules such as recording visitors and checking body temperature according to COVID-19 prevention guidelines.

Also, from July 20 to August 31, a temporary safety accommodation (night shelter) is operated for housing-vulnerable households such as basic livelihood security recipients through agreements with local hotels.

Mayor Yuseonghun said, “Residents should pay special attention to health management during the summer and cooperate in following quarantine rules. We will do our utmost for your safety and health.”
