Gyeonggi-do Appoints 69 Citizen Auditors

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has appointed 'Citizen Auditors' for provincial government audits.

On the 16th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it appointed 69 experts with professional expertise and practical experience in various fields, including university and research institute professors, labor attorneys, lawyers, chief supervisors, certified public accountants, and architects, as Citizen Auditors.

Citizen Auditors will carry out tasks such as ▲ proposing improvements and requesting corrections for unreasonable systems and practices ▲ verifying and inspecting the implementation status of proposals and corrective measures ▲ participating in audits and investigations related to public interest reports and corruption complaints ▲ participating in the establishment of anti-corruption integrity policies and providing opinions.

Considering the COVID-19 situation, the province decided not to hold an appointment ceremony or audit capacity-building training.

Kim Jin-hyo, the province's Chief Audit Officer, said, "With the participation of field-specific Citizen Auditors who have expertise and practical experience, fair and transparent audit administration can be realized," and added, "We look forward to the active activities of Citizen Auditors so that unreasonable systems and practices can be improved from the citizens' perspective."

Last year, through Citizen Auditors, the province achieved results by discovering and collecting 4.4 billion KRW in omitted tax bases. In addition, problems were identified in 761 units, accounting for 33% of the total 2,142 automated external defibrillators.
