[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The charitable donation by two soldiers who enlisted together while attending one of the United States' top prestigious universities has become a hot topic.

According to Hwacheon County, Corporal Kwon Hyuk-seon of the Army's 15th Division and Corporal Kim Seung-woo of the 27th Division visited Hwacheon County Office on the 15th and donated 2 million won, saying, "Please use this for children struggling due to COVID-19."

The two soldiers decided without hesitation to donate a considerable amount to help neighbors in need.

The 2 million won donation was prepared by combining the 1 million won prize money they recently received at the Army Startup Competition and each of their one-month salaries.

Corporals Kwon Hyuk-seon and Kim Seung-woo enlisted together while enrolled as first-year students at Stanford University, one of the United States' most prestigious universities.

They participated in the competition held in April and May and won an award with an idea utilizing big data (My Data) based on card usage history.

Choi Moon-soon, Hwacheon County Governor, expressed gratitude, saying, "The love and consideration of Corporals Kwon Hyuk-seon and Kim Seung-woo will be a great strength to the children of Hwacheon."

Corporals Kwon Hyuk-seon and Kim Seung-woo said, "Although the amount is not large, we decided to donate with the hope that it would help children who are economically struggling even a little."

Hwacheon County plans to deliver the 2 million won donation as intended by the two soldiers, giving 1 million won each to two Dream Start children.
