[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] CJ Logistics announced on the 15th that it has suspended parcel acceptance in the Wirye New Town area of Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province, where parcel delivery has been halted for over two weeks due to labor-management conflicts.
CJ Logistics stopped accepting parcels in some parts of Sujeong-gu, Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province, where delivery has been impossible, starting from 5 p.m. the previous day.
CJ Logistics explained, "To minimize customer inconvenience and damages to small and medium-sized business consignors due to concerns over a prolonged strike, we have suspended parcel acceptance in the affected area."
According to the National Parcel Solidarity Union, about 70 union members belonging to around 10 parcel agencies in Seongnam, including Wirye New Town, have been on strike since the 1st of this month.
The strike began due to conflicts between drivers belonging to a CJ Logistics agency in Seongnam and the agency owner. The union claims that the agency owner engaged in abusive behavior and verbal abuse under the pretext of union membership among the members, and that one affiliated driver was unfairly dismissed.
Currently, the volume of parcels piled up at the terminal due to the strike exceeds 100,000 items.
