KT Engineering Establishes Standard Operating Procedures for Data Center Construction Projects

[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] KT Engineering announced on the 15th that it is promoting business expansion by establishing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in its data center construction projects.

KT Engineering has organized the processes for each trade, including architecture, civil engineering, electrical, mechanical equipment, fire protection equipment, telecommunications, and landscaping, covering the entire process from the permit stage to design, construction, and completion, thereby establishing standard operating procedures. With the establishment of these SOPs, effects such as shortened construction periods and cost reduction from the client's perspective are expected. Additionally, as the construction process becomes more systematized, it is anticipated that improved safety management and construction quality can be provided to customers.

This is based on the business capabilities and experience that KT Engineering has accumulated through projects such as KT Yongsan IDC. Unlike general residential buildings, data centers that operate and manage corporate data servers are specialized buildings that incorporate advanced technology. Therefore, years of construction know-how are essential when establishing standard operating procedures.

KT Engineering has participated in 14 data center construction projects, including KT Yongsan IDC, which opened in November last year, Gimhae GDC (Global Data Center), Cheonan CDC (Cloud Data Center), Mokdong IDC, Yeouido IDC, and Bundang IDC. Among these, KT IDC guarantees large-capacity traffic transmission based on Korea’s top-tier terabit backbone network and is the first in the country to apply chilled water pre-cooling and high-efficiency inverter technology, boasting industry-leading power efficiency.

Going forward, KT Engineering plans to expand its scope to convergence public projects led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism by integrating expertise in the energy sector into data center construction projects. Furthermore, it plans to respond to new business areas such as zero-energy buildings related to RE100 (Renewable Energy 100%), which replaces power consumption with renewable energy.

Lee Sugil, Head of KT Engineering’s Business Division, stated, “In a situation where the Digital + Green New Deal policy and digital innovation (DX) for the 4th Industrial Revolution are emerging as new paradigms driving the industry, the importance of data centers, known as data hubs, is increasing,” adding, “Based on differentiated competitiveness that combines existing IDC construction experience with energy capabilities, we plan to actively promote the expansion of the IDC market.”
