2021 Metaverse Recruiting Camp Held

[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it will hold the ‘2021 Metaverse Recruiting Camp’ on the 15th and 16th in a non-face-to-face format to discover outstanding talents in the computer graphics (CG) field leading the metaverse era and to create quality jobs.

Now in its 4th year, this camp allows participants seeking employment to perform job-related tasks in recruitment fields, and metaverse and CG specialized companies evaluate the participants' job capabilities to directly hire talents suitable for their companies.

Separately from the hiring process, to strengthen the professional capabilities of job seekers, Q&A sessions about recruitment fields and companies, employment special lectures (talk concerts), and more will be held, and outstanding tasks by field will be selected and awarded.

This camp expanded its scope beyond the existing CG field to the metaverse, considering that the metaverse has recently emerged based on CG technology. The recruitment fields include the existing four CG types (2D, 3D, special visual effects, game engine) plus four metaverse-linked fields, totaling eight fields.

Eight companies related to metaverse and CG are participating, including Wysiwyg Studios, which participated in the production of the movie ‘Seungriho’ that ranked first immediately after its Netflix release, and Locus, which produced ‘Red Shoes,’ the first feature-length animation nominated for the Academy Awards.

The total number of participants is 50, who were finally selected through screening of applications and personal portfolios from about 100 applicants during the approximately three-week open recruitment from June 15 to July 4.

The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to continuously support participants by providing recruitment information such as job fairs and counseling sessions even after the event ends, so that the camp will not be a one-time event but will contribute to actual talent discovery and youth job creation.

Kim Jeongsam, Director of Software Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, “In the prolonged employment crisis worsened by COVID-19, we hope this Metaverse Recruiting Camp will be a good opportunity for both specialized companies seeking talented individuals in the metaverse and CG fields and young talents hoping to find jobs. We will strive to nurture competent young talents and support specialized companies so that this can be a stepping stone for the activation of metaverse services and industrial growth.”

Meanwhile, detailed schedules for the ‘2021 Metaverse Computer Graphics (CG) Recruiting Camp’ can be found on the event website.
