[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] LS ELECTRIC (hereinafter LS Electric) has begun expanding its presence in the North American market, which accounts for more than 50% of the global energy storage system (ESS) market.
On the 14th, LS Electric unveiled its North America customer-tailored ESS solution, the 'LS Modular Scalable String Platform,' locally and announced its strategy to expand its ESS business.
This platform was developed at 180kVA and 600Vac levels by incorporating the design technology of LS Electric's power conversion system (PCS) and reflecting the preferences of North American customers who favor medium to large capacities.
The new product features modularization of the PEBB (Power Electronics Building Block), a core component of ESS power conversion, by capacity units, enabling smart independent operation and easy capacity expansion up to 3MW upon customer request.
LS Electric is the first domestic company to acquire essential certifications for entering the North American power grid business. Among these, 'California Rule 21' is a certification required for entry into California, separate from UL certification, giving LS Electric a strategic advantage in capturing the largest local market.
An LS Electric official stated, "The trend of energy transition for carbon reduction continues, and since the inauguration of the Biden administration, the ESS business is expected to show rapid growth centered in the United States. Based on globally proven top-level technology and reliability both domestically and internationally, we plan to accelerate our global ESS market penetration using the U.S. market as a foothold."
