[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Seocho-gu and Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul autonomous districts, have stepped up to support pet owners who hesitate to adopt abandoned animals due to economic burdens by providing adoption fee assistance for abandoned animals.

Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Cho) offers up to 500,000 KRW in adoption fee support for abandoned animals. This is the highest support amount among local governments nationwide.

Eligible applicants are residents who adopt abandoned animals found in Seocho-gu for companionship purposes and complete animal registration. Supported items include ?implantable animal registration fees ?disease diagnosis fees ?vaccination fees ?treatment fees ?grooming fees ?neutering surgery fees ?pet insurance subscription fees, etc.

To apply, applicants must obtain an adoption confirmation certificate from the Seocho Animal Love Center or the Korea Animal Rescue Management Association and submit receipts and other supporting documents.

In particular, the district provides 1:1 pre- and post-adoption education for applicants adopting through the Seocho Animal Love Center and has established a community for adopters to exchange various information.

Checking the abandoned animals under the district’s care is simple. You can meet abandoned animals looking for new families through the Seocho Animal Love Center Instagram (@seocho_animal), its website, or the Korea Animal Rescue Management Association website.

The district’s adoption fee support program operates on a first-come, first-served basis until the budget is exhausted. For more details, contact the Seocho-gu Office Job and Economy Division.

Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Deok-yeol Yoo) supports up to 300,000 KRW in adoption fees for residents adopting abandoned animals from the Dongdaemun-gu Animal Protection Center (Korea Animal Rescue Management Association, Yangju, Gyeonggi-do) to promote a culture of pet adoption.

Residents of Dongdaemun-gu who have adopted abandoned animals for companionship purposes after July 1 of this year can receive support for ▲disease diagnosis fees ▲treatment fees ▲vaccinations ▲neutering surgery fees ▲implantable animal registration fees ▲grooming fees, among other items.

Eligible residents must obtain an adoption confirmation certificate from the Dongdaemun-gu Animal Protection Center and receive treatments for each item at one of the three designated animal hospitals within Dongdaemun-gu. They only need to cover costs exceeding 300,000 KRW.

Applications for adoption fee support are currently being accepted at the Dongdaemun-gu Office. For more information, contact the Dongdaemun-gu Office Economic Promotion Division.
