CU, Recruiting Participants for 'Contactless Marathon'... "Supporting Descendants of Independence Activists" CU is recruiting participants for the '2021 Virtual 815 Run' to commemorate Liberation Day and support the descendants of independence activists.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] CU announced on the 14th that, following last year, it is recruiting participants for the ‘2021 Virtual 815 Run’ to support the descendants of independence activists in commemoration of Liberation Day.

The Virtual 815 Run is a non-face-to-face marathon held on Liberation Day, where participants choose their preferred time and place to run, reflecting the strengthened social distancing guidelines. All proceeds from the campaign, including participation fees and corporate donations, will be donated to Habitat for Humanity Korea to be used for improving the housing conditions of the descendants of independence activists.

Ambassador and singer Sean will run a course of 81.5 km on August 15. General participants can register from the 15th to the 31st on the event page within the CU membership app PocketCU. A total of 3,000 participants will be recruited, and upon application, they can select their completion target distance from 3.1 km, 4.5 km, or 8.15 km, considering their personal ability.

Participants will receive the 815 Run package, which includes an eco-friendly T-shirt, droplet-blocking mask, SocksUp socks, and a medal. After completing the course on the event day, posting a participation verification photo on their personal Instagram will accumulate individual donations. So far, numerous partners such as The North Face, Kakao Together Value, Hackers Education Group, and Korea District Heating Corporation have expressed their intention to participate in this campaign, and additional participating companies will be recruited until the end of this month.

A BGF Retail official said, “We prepared the Virtual 815 Run again this year with singer Sean and Habitat for Humanity Korea to share our gratitude for independence activists with our customers,” adding, “CU will continue to actively pursue various activities to raise social interest in independence activists.”
