[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] The West Sea Regional Maritime Police Agency announced that Commissioner Lee Myung-jun visited the Sewol ferry mooring site as his first destination after taking office.


On the morning of the 13th, Commissioner Lee visited the new port in Mokpo, Jeonnam, where the Sewol ferry hull is located, to pay tribute to the victims.


Commissioner Lee stated, "We will create a sea where the public can trust and feel safe, ensuring the safety of our people," and emphasized, "We will establish a rapid rescue response system to immediately rescue even a single citizen in danger at sea."


He then paid respects to the bust of the late Lieutenant Park Kyung-jo, erected at Noeul Park in Mokpo. Honoring the sacrifice of the late officer who did not hesitate to risk his life to protect the seas of the Republic of Korea, he reaffirmed the commitment to safeguard maritime sovereignty and security by thoroughly protecting Korea's maritime territory from neighboring countries.


Commissioner Lee Myung-jun expressed, "Maritime patrols should be mission-focused, based on comprehensive security information gathered through the collection and systematic analysis of various maritime data," and added, "To neutralize the fishing intentions of foreign vessels engaged in illegal fishing, we will prepare a strong seizure operation plan that complies with quarantine rules along with safety measures for enforcement officers."
