Seoul District Publicity Also 'Yeopungdangdang'...Women Make Up Half of Publicity Directors and Media Team Leaders


[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] As the number of female employees in the public sector increases, the number of female managers and team leaders among the public relations officers in Seoul's autonomous districts is also significantly rising.


According to the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul, as of the personnel appointments on July 1, female public relations managers account for 12 (48%), and media team leaders for 11 (44%), making up nearly half.


In the past, the public relations field was often dominated by male employees, but since the COVID-19 era, the number of female public relations managers and media team leaders has been gradually increasing, attracting attention.


In this personnel appointment, four female public relations managers were newly appointed: Kim Young-hye of Jung-gu, Yoo Mi-jo of Seongbuk-gu, Yoo Ok-soon of Yeongdeungpo-gu, and Lee Sun-hee of Songpa-gu.


Notably, among them, Lee Sun-hee of Songpa-gu served as public relations manager a year ago, then moved to tourism manager, and has now returned to the public relations manager position.


Also, Manager Yoo Ok-soon drew attention as she and her sister Yoo Kwang-soon, who worked in the same district office during the 6th local government term, both hold the position of public relations manager.


Additionally, managers Jo Yang-ja of Gwangjin-gu, Nam Sun-ok of Mapo-gu, Lee In-mi of Yangcheon-gu, Park Dae-soon of Guro-gu, So Mi-kyung of Dongjak-gu, Lee Sook-hee of Gwanak-gu, Yoon Kyung-won of Seocho-gu, and Yoon Hee-eun of Gangdong-gu have been serving as public relations managers for about six months to a year and are evaluated as successfully performing their duties.


New media team leaders taking on public relations duties include Park Mi-hee of Dongdaemun-gu, Jo Nam-sook of Dongjak-gu, and Yoon Young-shim of Gwanak-gu.


Among them, Park Mi-hee of Dongdaemun-gu has experience as a media team reporting officer during the 5th local government term.


Current media team leaders handling public relations include Yoo Soo-yeon of Jung-gu, Song Kyung-sun of Yongsan-gu, Lee Jin-young of Seongdong-gu, Seo Ja-kyung of Seongbuk-gu, Kim Dong-jin of Dobong-gu, Im Eun-kyung of Eunpyeong-gu, Na Jin-ah of Seodaemun-gu, and Kim Eun-joo of Gangnam-gu.


Besides these, many female employees hold the position of media team reporting officers. They include Lee Hye-min of Jongno-gu, Kim Nam-jin of Jung-gu, Nam Ra-young and Kim Eun-ae of Seongdong-gu, Ahn Jung-won of Gwangjin-gu, Hyun Jin-sun and Kim Jae-won of Dongdaemun-gu, Kim Sun-young, Jeon Ye-eun, and Lee Yoo-jin of Jungnang-gu, Park Soo-jin and Na Yoon-young of Seongbuk-gu, Park Eun-young and Jo Yoon-hee of Nowon-gu, Kim Yu-mi, Jung Im-young, and Park Hyo-eun of Mapo-gu, Hwang Ji-sun, Eom Ji, and Jung Soo-hyun of Yangcheon-gu, Lee Soo-young of Gangseo-gu, Jin Soo-hyun, Jang Hee-won, and Lee Hae-young of Guro-gu, Yoo Min-hee and Paeng Ji-yeon of Yeongdeungpo-gu, Kim Joo-hee, Kang Yeon-kyung, and Lee Yoo-mi of Dongjak-gu, Park Sun-hee of Gwanak-gu, Lee Kyung-jin and Seo Yoon-mi of Seocho-gu, Choi Jin-ah, Jung Eun-young, and Jung Yoo-hyun of Songpa-gu, and Lee Yoo-mi and Nam Eun-sook of Gangdong-gu.


An official from an autonomous district said, "As the number of female public officials increases, it seems natural that female employees are also increasing in public relations work."


Another official stated, "Before the COVID-19 era, there were many opportunities for drinking with journalists, which was difficult for female employees, but now such occasions are gradually decreasing. Female employees have gentle and delicate personalities, which can actually allow them to demonstrate their abilities in public relations work."
