[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] A mother who left the body of her 20-month-old daughter in an icebox has been arrested. The girl's father fled the scene and remains missing.
According to the Daejeon Police Agency on the 12th, the Daejeon District Court issued an arrest warrant for Ms. A (female, in her 20s), who was caught on charges of abandoning a corpse, the day before. The court issued the warrant due to concerns that Ms. A might flee or destroy evidence.
Earlier, Ms. A is suspected of placing her deceased daughter in an icebox and leaving it at her home in Daedeok-gu, Daejeon, in mid-last month.
The police received a report on the 9th from Ms. A's mother (the deceased child's maternal grandmother), who suspected child abuse, and upon arriving at the scene, searched Ms. A's home and found the icebox containing the body in the bathroom.
When the police discovered the deceased child at the scene, it was reported that the child's body showed signs of abuse, including fractures and subcutaneous hemorrhaging.
The police suspect that the child died after being assaulted by her biological father and others, and are currently tracking the whereabouts of the biological father. An arrest warrant for child abuse and murder has been issued for the father, who is currently on the run.
Meanwhile, the police have requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of death. The autopsy is scheduled to take place on the 12th.
