[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] The number of new domestic COVID-19 cases reached the highest ever for a Sunday, with over 1,100 cases. The '4th wave' continues to spread, maintaining over 1,000 cases for six consecutive days.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) reported that as of midnight on the 12th, there were 1,063 new domestic COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 169,146.
Of these, 1,063 were domestic cases and 37 were imported cases.
By region, Seoul reported 402 cases, Gyeonggi 322, and Incheon 51, totaling 775 cases in the metropolitan area.
In non-metropolitan areas, cases surged nationwide with Busan and Chungnam at 43, Gyeongnam 40, Daegu 37, Daejeon 25, Jeonnam 19, Gangwon 18, Gwangju and Chungbuk 13, Gyeongbuk 12, Ulsan 8, Jeju 7, Sejong 6, and Jeonbuk 4.
Among the 37 imported cases, 20 were identified during quarantine, and the remaining 17 were confirmed in the local community. Thirteen were Korean nationals and 24 were foreigners. Most arrivals were from Asian countries, including 14 from Indonesia.
The number of critically ill patients is 138. One additional death was reported the previous day, bringing the total deaths to 2,044, with a fatality rate of 1.21%.
The number of newly released from isolation increased by 427, totaling 154,187.
The number of suspected cases tested was 17,620. At temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area, 29,828 tests were conducted, confirming 174 positive cases. In non-metropolitan temporary screening clinics, 3,174 tests were conducted, identifying 7 positive cases, with a total of 50,622 tests performed nationwide.

According to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team, 1,573 people received COVID-19 vaccinations the previous day.
There were 470 new first-dose vaccinations, bringing the total number of people who have received the first dose to 15,586,937. The first-dose vaccination rate relative to the population is 30.4%.
There were 1,103 new second-dose vaccinations, with a total of 5,873,409 people having completed vaccination. The completion rate relative to the population is 11.4%.
Over the weekend, 501 new cases of suspected adverse reactions following COVID-19 vaccination were reported.
Common post-vaccination symptoms such as muscle pain, headache, fever, chills, and nausea accounted for 96,225 cases (95%) and constituted the majority.
Among major adverse reaction cases, 16 neurological adverse reactions and 2 deaths were newly reported, with no suspected cases of anaphylaxis.
