[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Hyundai Oilbank recently announced on the 12th that it released 250,000 juvenile rockfish and flatfish near Samgilpo Port, Nanjido Island, and Garorim Bay off the coast of Daesan Plant in Seosan City, Chungnam Province. The company has been conducting this project since 2002 to increase fishermen's income and develop the local economy.
The waters near Samgilpo Port have grown into the largest rockfish aggregation area in Korea, and the "Samgilpo Rockfish Festival," hosted by Seosan City since 2005, has attracted many tourists and established itself as a representative local festival. Since 2003, the company has purchased about 1 billion KRW worth of rice from the Seosan area annually to widely promote it, and through its scholarship foundation, it has provided scholarships to middle and high school students and university students in the region who are financially disadvantaged.
