Seoul Gangseo-gu Conveys Wish to Minister Hwang Hee for Hosting 'Inwangjesaekdo' at Gyeomjae Jeongseon Art Museum

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) announced that on the 10th, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hwang Hee visited the Gyeomjae Jeongseon Art Museum, which is leading the campaign to attract the painting Inwang Jesaekdo.

Minister Hwang, visiting Gangseo-gu for the first time that day, toured the museum’s first-floor special exhibition hall and the second-floor Gyeomjae Jeongseon Memorial Room consecutively, receiving about a 10-minute introduction about the museum from the director of the Gyeomjae Jeongseon Art Museum.

He then held a meeting in the third-floor multipurpose room of the Gyeomjae Jeongseon Art Museum with Mayor Noh Hyun-song and other district officials, listening to participants’ opinions and engaging in a time of communication.

Also accompanying Minister Hwang on his visit were National Assembly member Jin Seong-jun, Cultural Center Director Kim Jin-ho, and Gangseo-gu Chamber of Commerce President Kim Byung-hee.

The district explained to Minister Hwang the reasons and justification for why the national treasure Inwang Jesaekdo, donated to the government by the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee, should be hosted at the Gyeomjae Jeongseon Art Museum, requesting active cooperation and support from the government.

They emphasized that the significant participation of many residents within just one month through the “Blue House National Petition Campaign to Attract Inwang Jesaekdo” demonstrates Gangseo-gu’s deep desire and interest in acquiring this national treasure.

Furthermore, they stated that if Gyeomjae’s works held by the National Museum of Korea are hosted at the Gyeomjae Jeongseon Art Museum, it will serve not only as a driving force for the growth of local culture and arts but also as a catalyst for win-win cooperation between central and local governments and for cultural decentralization.

In particular, they introduced the various activities of the Gyeomjae Jeongseon Art Museum to carry on the spirit of the master, including artifact collection, exhibitions, education, academic conferences, and cultural projects, reaffirming the museum’s status and determination to inherit and develop true-view landscape painting for future generations.

Mayor Noh Hyun-song said, “I deeply thank Minister Hwang Hee for visiting Gangseo-gu despite his busy schedule,” adding, “Gangseo-gu, which can be called the completion site of true-view landscape painting, has long made various efforts to honor the achievements and artistic spirit of Master Gyeomjae based on our connection with him. If Inwang Jesaekdo joins the Gyeomjae Jeongseon Art Museum, it will greatly enhance not only the value of the artwork but also the promotion of Gyeomjae’s spirit.”

Minister Hwang said, “Seeing the Gyeomjae Jeongseon Art Museum operating with its own identity and distinctive features on site, I felt a different charm compared to the National Museum,” and added, “We will strive to further enhance the local cultural enjoyment rights and make various efforts so that local cultural resources like the Gyeomjae Jeongseon Art Museum can grow even more.”

Meanwhile, the district submitted a proposal titled “Attraction of Gyeomjae Jeongseon’s Inwang Jesaekdo to Gangseo-gu Gyeomjae Jeongseon Art Museum” to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in June.
