Galaxy Unpacked One Month Away... Excessive Leaks Raise Red Flags for Success?

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] With Samsung Electronics' second half new product launch event, 'Galaxy Unpacked,' just a month away, concerns are rising that continuous leaks of new product information could cast a red light on its success.

According to industry sources on the 12th, Samsung Electronics plans to hold the Galaxy Unpacked event online on the 11th of next month to unveil new foldable smartphones 'Galaxy Z Flip3' and 'Galaxy Z Fold3,' the smartwatch 'Galaxy Watch4,' and wireless earphones 'Galaxy Buds2.'

As the Unpacked event approaches, Samsung Electronics needs to raise expectations for the new products, but the increasing intensity of information leaks is causing headaches. Earlier, well-known IT tipster Evan Blass posted a large number of 360-degree rendering images of the new products to be showcased at the Unpacked event on his Twitter account. The images revealed by Evan Blass allow confirmation of the products presumed to be new, including their images and colors, which could potentially dampen the excitement for the Unpacked event.

In particular, rendering images of the 'Galaxy S21 Fan Edition (FE),' which was expected to be delayed due to semiconductor supply issues, have also been confirmed, leading to speculation that the Galaxy S21 FE might also be unveiled at next month's Unpacked event. The Galaxy S21 FE is a semi-premium model that maintains the core features of the flagship S series while lowering the price. It is attracting attention as a smartphone that will fill the gap left by Samsung Electronics' 'Galaxy Note' series alongside foldable smartphones in the second half of this year.

Typically, moderate information leaks before a new product launch have been viewed positively as they attract consumer attention and increase curiosity. However, recently, the intensity of leaks has increased, with not only simple rendering images but also detailed specifications being frequently exposed. The leaks regarding the products to be unveiled at this Galaxy Unpacked event are considered unprecedented. From Samsung Electronics' perspective, since all related information is being exposed even before the product is officially revealed, concerns about a lackluster event are inevitably growing.

Samsung Electronics is also taking action to crack down. Previously, another IT tipster Max Jambor warned via his Twitter that Samsung Electronics has started responding to copyright infringements related to images and videos of unreleased new products. The IT specialized media PhoneArena also reported that Samsung Electronics sent warning letters to supply chain partners regarding leaks and subsequently announced a copyright manual related to information leaks.
