[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) will increase the recycling collection rate through proper separation and disposal by adding two more recycling stations, which will be fully operational starting in August.
Recycling stations are key collection facilities where recyclable materials such as paper, plastics, cans, and bottles can be separated and disposed of by category.
Residents can use the stations at any time without time restrictions, and local residents are employed as resource managers to maintain cleanliness of the separation bins and to guide proper separation and disposal.
One of the pledges of the 7th local government administration is to expand recycling stations in residential areas annually. Since 2016, the district has installed and operated 18 recycling stations in areas densely populated with single-family and multi-family homes where mixed waste disposal and illegal dumping are frequent.
The district plans to expand the number of recycling stations to 22 across all neighborhoods by next year.
The newly added locations are ▲ in front of Hyundai Parking Lot in Heukseok-dong (18, Heukseok-ro 10-gil) ▲ in front of Woori Daycare Center in Sadang-dong (235-60, Sadang 5-dong). CCTV installation and continuous patrols by resource managers will help prevent illegal dumping.
In addition, the district is promoting various recycling projects to establish a resource circulation recycling system, including ▲ installation of the AI recycling automatic collection machine ‘Nephron’ ▲ expansion of recycling stations in residential areas ▲ recycling of ice packs ▲ recycling of coffee grounds.
Choi Seung-baek, Director of the Cleaning Administration Division, said, “Through this project, we will create a cleaner urban environment by efficiently collecting and processing recyclable resources,” and added, “We ask residents to actively cooperate with proper separation and disposal.”
