Yongsan-gu's "When Children Meet Society" Public Lecture for Promoting Social Skills in Children and Adolescents on the 12th

According to the Statistics Korea Population Trends Survey and Cause of Death Statistics, since 2011, the leading cause of death among youths aged 9 to 24 has been 'intentional self-harm (suicide)'.
While structural social causes are significant, it is first necessary to strengthen education for children on respecting life, anger management, and social skills development.
Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) will hold a public lecture titled "When Children Meet Society" on the 12th, aimed at promoting social skills among children and adolescents.
The target audience is parents of children and adolescents. The lecture aims to enhance understanding and coping skills regarding social development during growth, present the basic roles parents should know, and help children and adolescents grow into healthy and proper members of society.
The session will be held from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM via Yongsan-gu Office's YouTube channel, and the lecture will be delivered by Director Yang Yong-jun of Oneul Mental Health Clinic.
Director Yang graduated from Korea University Department of Psychology and Catholic University College of Medicine. He has served as head of departments at Eunhye, Onse, and Nuga Hospitals, as well as director of the Gimhae City Mental Health Welfare Center. Currently, he is an adjunct professor at Catholic University Seoul St. Mary's Hospital and practices privately.
He operates meditation cognitive therapy, psychoanalysis, job stress clinics, and clinics for children, adolescents, and adults of both genders.
The lecture will be divided into two parts: "Sociality Budding - When Parents' and Children's Minds Meet" and "Sociality Blossoming - The Most Precious Thing is My Existence." Real-time Q&A will be available through the chat window.
Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, "The Yongsan-gu Public Health Center Mental Health Welfare Center has prepared a public lecture for parents," adding, "The district will work hard to help our children grow up bright and cheerful alongside their neighbors."
In addition to this public lecture, the district is making efforts to promote mental health among local residents through various initiatives such as operating the Mental Health Welfare Center, managing patients with severe mental illnesses, preventing alcohol-related harm, providing psychological support for COVID-19 self-quarantined individuals, and community-based suicide prevention programs.
