[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] It has been revealed that an elderly man in his 80s in Japan received the COVID-19 vaccine four times. This man reportedly hid his vaccination history and moved to different regions to get vaccinated, expecting that the more vaccines he received, the more antibodies he would develop.

On the 8th, Hokkaido Broadcasting reported that an elderly man in his 80s living in Deshikagacho, Doto region, was found to have concealed his vaccination status and received additional vaccines in other areas.

According to the report, the man completed two doses of the vaccine as a preliminary vaccination in regions other than Deshikagacho in April and May. Later, in mid-June and early this month, he registered again for vaccination targeting the general elderly population in Deshikagacho. He applied for additional vaccination while hiding his vaccination history from other regions.

This fact was uncovered on the 6th when the National Health Insurance billed Deshikagacho for the man's vaccine costs from April.

The man explained the reason for receiving four doses of the vaccine, saying, "I thought that increasing the number of vaccinations would increase antibodies. I believed the effect would be better accordingly," according to local media.

In relation to this, there are concerns locally that there may be loopholes in the vaccination process. In response, Deshikagacho stated that it will thoroughly review vaccination histories during the preliminary examination process and work to prevent recurrence.
