Helping Seniors Have a Safe Summer, Supported by Disaster Relief Fund and Korea Housing Finance Corporation
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The Busan Metropolitan City has launched a service to prevent 'heat-related illnesses' among elderly people living alone in preparation for the summer season.
This summer, the average temperature is expected to rise above normal levels, with precipitation remaining similar, forecasting hotter weather than usual.
Busan City will provide heatwave preparedness supplies to 5,222 vulnerable elderly residents living in 16 districts and counties, using a total of 90 million KRW, including 70 million KRW from the disaster relief fund and 20 million KRW in sponsorship from the Korea Housing Finance Corporation.
In May, Busan City conducted a needs survey for necessary items targeting approximately 26,000 elderly people vulnerable to heatwaves through elderly customized care service agencies.
Based on the survey results, the city will support ▲summer health food kits (2,350 people) ▲summer blankets (1,331 people) ▲summer underwear (800 people) ▲electric fans (741 people), among others.
Busan City plans to deliver the heatwave preparedness supplies by the 9th through the Busan Center for Elderly Living Alone Support and 1,937 personnel engaged in elderly protection projects in districts and counties.
