"Lee Jae-myung Works Well"... Governor Lee Ranks '1st' for 3 Consecutive Months Among 17 Metropolitan Leaders


[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, has been evaluated as the best-performing head of the 17 metropolitan local governments nationwide for three consecutive months since April.


According to the Realmeter evaluation of metropolitan governors on the 7th, Governor Lee recorded a positive evaluation of 61.3% in the June assessment. Although this is a 1.6 percentage point decrease compared to the previous month, it is the first place for three consecutive months. In particular, Governor Lee was the only metropolitan governor to record a positive evaluation in the 60% range.


In second place was Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, with 56.1%. Third to fifth places were Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do (54.5%), Oh Se-hoon, Mayor of Seoul (53.0%), and Park Hyung-joon, Mayor of Busan (50.7%), respectively.


Following them were ▲ Lee Si-jong, Governor of Chungcheongbuk-do (49.5%) ▲ Yang Seung-jo, Governor of Chungcheongnam-do (49.3%) ▲ Song Ha-jin, Governor of Jeollabuk-do (48.4%) ▲ Won Hee-ryong, Governor of Jeju (47.3%) ▲ Kim Kyung-soo, Governor of Gyeongsangnam-do (44.3%) ▲ Lee Yong-seop, Mayor of Gwangju (44.0%) ▲ Heo Tae-jeong, Mayor of Daejeon (42.5%) ▲ Kwon Young-jin, Mayor of Daegu (40.4%) ▲ Lee Chun-hee, Mayor of Sejong (39.9%) ▲ Choi Moon-soon, Governor of Gangwon-do (38.7%) ▲ Park Nam-chun, Mayor of Incheon (33.7%) ▲ Song Cheol-ho, Mayor of Ulsan (29.4%).


Mayor Heo Tae-jeong of Daejeon and Governor Lee Cheol-woo of Gyeongsangbuk-do saw a significant increase in positive evaluations. On the other hand, Mayor Lee Yong-seop of Gwangju and Mayor Kwon Young-jin of Daegu experienced a significant decrease in positive evaluations compared to the previous month.

In the nationwide metropolitan city and province residents' life satisfaction evaluation, Seoul Special City maintained first place for two consecutive months with 67.1%. Gyeonggi Province ranked second with 64.3%, up 0.9 percentage points from the previous month. Jeju Special Self-Governing Province recorded third place with 63.7%, up 2.5 percentage points.


Realmeter conducted a survey for the June nationwide metropolitan government evaluation from May 24 to 31 and from June 24 to 29, targeting 8,500 people aged 18 and over nationwide, using a random telephone dialing automated response method for both landline and mobile phones.


The statistical analysis was conducted on 17,000 people using a 2-month rolling time series data analysis technique. Statistical adjustments applied weighting by gender, age group, and region based on the resident registration population statistics from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as of the end of January 2021. The sampling error for each statistic is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and the response rate was 5.5%.
