[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Doosan Fuel Cell announced on the 6th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with STX Co., Ltd. to jointly promote businesses utilizing fuel cells.

The signing ceremony held at Doosan Tower in Jung-gu, Seoul, was attended by Doosan Fuel Cell CEO Yoo Soo-kyung and STX CEO Park Sang-jun, among others. Through this MOU, the two companies agreed to collaborate on ▲smart farm projects using CCUS technology ▲the distribution of charging stations utilizing TriGen fuel cells.

Smart farms are businesses that integrate IT into agriculture to build farms that dramatically improve crop production efficiency. When fuel cells using natural gas as a raw material are applied to smart farms, the heat generated can be used in the greenhouse’s cooling and heating systems to reduce energy costs. Additionally, the byproduct carbon dioxide (CO2) can be supplied back to the crops by applying CCUS technology.

The charging station distribution project involves supplying the TriGen fuel cells, currently being developed by Doosan Fuel Cell, as distributed power sources to existing gas stations and other locations. TriGen fuel cells can simultaneously produce electricity, heat, and hydrogen in urban areas, making them suitable for complex charging stations that can charge both hydrogen and electricity, and they can also be used in various fields such as hot water supply and district heating.

Doosan Fuel Cell CEO Yoo Soo-kyung said, "We will accelerate business development through collaboration with STX, which has experience and a global network in various fields such as energy, raw material import/export, and shipping." He added, "Doosan Fuel Cell will contribute to building the infrastructure of a hydrogen society through continuous technological development, including TriGen, fuel cells for ships, and Korean-style SOFC."
