Police Crack Down on 13 Including Owners of Illegal Karaoke Rooms in Songpa-gu, Seoul

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A singing practice room in Songpa-gu, Seoul, which was operating illegally despite the gathering ban, was caught by the police.


Songpa Police Station in Seoul announced that at 1:07 a.m. on the 6th, a total of 13 people, including the owner, 7 employees, and 5 customers, were caught at a singing practice room in Garak-dong, Songpa-gu, for violating the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act.


After receiving a 112 report stating, "I saw customers entering the singing practice room late at night," the police, together with the fire department, dispatched and conducted a crackdown. It was also confirmed that the singing practice room sold alcohol to customers and hired hostesses. The owner was also charged with violating the Act on the Promotion of the Music Industry.


A Songpa Police official said, "If a report of violation of quarantine rules is received, we will respond with full force to prevent the spread of infectious diseases."


Currently, in the metropolitan area, store operations of multi-use facilities such as restaurants and cafes are only allowed until 10 p.m. Six types of entertainment facilities, including nightclubs, karaoke bars, emotional pubs, colatecs, and hunting pochas, are prohibited from operating due to the gathering ban.
