[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] VisualCamp, an eye-tracking technology company, announced on the 6th that its software 'SeeSo' won the Innovation Award in the Digital Convergence category at the MWC GLOMO Awards.
'SeeSo' received the highest Innovation Award in the Mobile Connected Living category at the MWC Global Mobile Awards 2021 held in Barcelona, Spain on the 30th. This award is given to companies leading innovation in the rapidly evolving mobile industry.
The Global Mobile Awards is a prestigious ceremony in the information and communication field hosted by the GSM Association (GSMA), selecting outstanding companies in 23 categories across 7 fields this year. The ceremony was held online due to COVID-19.
VisualCamp is the only startup among the Korean companies awarded this time. VisualCamp stated that this award is significant as it recognizes their technology and potential by global mobile industry experts and that they received the highest Innovation Award in the Industry X category, which is given to products leading innovation in the digital transformation era.
SeeSo, an AI-based eye-tracking software commercialized by VisualCamp last year, tracks the user's pupils with a camera, allowing device input by eye instead of hand, and generates real-time data on where and how long the user is looking. Unlike existing eye-tracking technologies that require expensive hardware, SeeSo is software-based, resulting in cost reduction. The company also explained that the software has vast applicability in remote classes, video conferencing, e-commerce, gaming, and other fields.
The judges of the Mobile Connected Living category highly praised the award, stating, “We highly appreciate the demonstration of high applicability of eye-tracking technology on mobile platforms, such as its application in remote education services and mobile e-book apps.”
Last year, SeeSo supplied eye-tracking technology to Visang M-Learning and LG U+’s tablet education services to enable concentration-based self-directed learning in remote situations. Additionally, it introduced a new UI/UX concept by providing the world's first eye-based page-turning function on Millie's Library reading platform, showcasing a new eye interface.
VisualCamp added that recently they have recruited medical experts and are investing research capabilities in the digital healthcare sector (ADHD, digital dry eye treatment, dementia, developmental cognitive disorders) to diversify their business.
Jae-Seung Park, co-founder of VisualCamp, said, “It is an honor to be the only domestic startup selected for the MWC GLOMO Awards, and it is especially meaningful that the award category is Connected Living. We will continue to integrate eye-tracking technology into various industries to connect people’s daily lives and enhance accessibility, while improving technological completeness and continuing innovation.”
