[Asia Economy Reporter Junhyung Lee] The wife of the Belgian ambassador to Korea, who caused controversy by assaulting a clothing store employee, has now been involved in a mutual assault incident with a sanitation worker.
According to the police on the 5th, Ms. Suechiu Siang, the ambassador Peter Lescouhier's wife, got into an altercation around 9:25 a.m. at Dokseodang Park located in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, after the broom of sanitation worker A (65) touched her body, leading to mutual assault.
The police arrived at the scene following a report from Mr. A, but since both Ms. Siang and Mr. A did not wish to press charges, the case was closed without criminal prosecution. However, during the heated exchange and pushing, Ms. Siang fell and was transported to Soonchunhyang Hospital.
Mr. A reportedly visited Hannam Police Station in the afternoon and stated that he was slapped by Ms. Siang, receiving guidance regarding filing a complaint.
Earlier, Ms. Siang was booked and investigated by the police for allegedly hitting the back of a staff member’s head and slapping another employee who tried to intervene at a clothing store in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, in April. As the controversy escalated, the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reportedly decided to end Ambassador Lescouhier’s term this summer and repatriate him along with Ms. Siang.
