[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] 'Baedal Teukgeup,' a public delivery app platform created by Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung for the mutual growth of small business owners and consumers, ranked first in consumer favorability, surpassing Baedal Minjok and Coupang Eats just six months after its launch, according to a professional agency's survey.
Gyeonggi Province Corporation announced on the 5th that, based on an analysis of 'positive words' conducted by big data analysis specialist Chai Communication from December 1 last year to May 31 this year, Baedal Teukgeup's favorability sharply rose from 72% to 93%, securing first place.
The survey was conducted using Chai Communication's proprietary social analysis platform CINDI and big data analysis solution CURADAR.
Consumer favorability for four major domestic delivery apps was analyzed across seven channels, including news, online communities, blogs, and cafes.
Chai Communication attributed Baedal Teukgeup's top rise in favorability to the overall increase in positive sentiment toward delivery services due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, as well as growing favorability toward public delivery apps amid issues of excessive fees and monopolies.
Previously, another analysis firm, the Global Big Data Research Institute, also found that Gyeonggi Province's Baedal Teukgeup ranked first in consumer favorability among six domestic delivery apps consecutively in January and February.
Additionally, in a public opinion survey conducted by Gyeonggi Province from May 14 to 17 with 1,000 residents, nearly 70% gave positive evaluations that Baedal Teukgeup contributed to realizing a fair society during the third anniversary of the 7th term of the provincial government.
Baedal Teukgeup was born when Governor Lee Jae-myung emphasized the necessity of a public delivery app charging lower intermediary fees compared to private delivery apps, amid concerns over monopolies in apps like Baedal Minjok.
Baedal Teukgeup has recently surpassed a total transaction amount of 30 billion KRW through consumer discounts linked to Gyeonggi Province's local currency and various events. It has also achieved remarkable results among nationwide public delivery apps, with over 340,000 registered members.
Lee Seok-hoon, CEO of Gyeonggi Province Corporation, stated, "It seems that the strong desire and support from consumers and small business owners for Gyeonggi Province's public platform are reflected in the high favorability." He emphasized, "We will continue to strive to fulfill its positive role as a win-win platform for all."
