[Asia Economy Reporter Joesulgina] Rendering images of the 'Galaxy Watch4 Classic' (tentative name), presumed to be Samsung Electronics' new smartwatch, have been released. It will be available in three colors: White, Silver, and Black, featuring a rotating bezel. This is the 'Classic' version that preserves the traditional watch feel.
According to IT specialized media Android Headlines on the 2nd, the Galaxy Watch4 is expected to be unveiled in two versions, the Active model and the Classic model, at the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event in August. It will be the first model to support the unified operating system (OS) integrated with Google and the One UI Watch announced recently by Samsung Electronics at MWC2021.
It has been about five years since Samsung Electronics named a smartwatch 'Classic,' last doing so with the Gear S3 Classic. Looking at the rendering images of the Galaxy Watch4 Classic released by Android Headlines, it is confirmed that the design supports a rotating bezel on a traditional watch design. The bezel can be physically rotated to select applications. Two large buttons are located on the right side of the watch. The media added that this allows easy navigation of the new unified OS.
The product colors are White, Silver, and Black. Stainless steel or aluminum options are available. Gorilla Glass DX and Gorilla Glass DX+ are installed respectively. Sizes are 42mm, 44mm, and 46mm. Android Headlines mentioned, "This means there is a size for everyone." The previous Galaxy Watch3 was released in 41mm and 45mm sizes.
Compatibility with existing watch bands is also possible. Although the leaked images show a silicone band, the media added that Samsung Electronics is likely to offer other bands such as leather and metal for separate purchase.
The images are presumed to be Samsung Electronics' marketing images. Android Headlines pointed out that the number 28 displayed on the watch screen might indicate the date when the Galaxy Watch4 will be unveiled or released. This is because Samsung has a tendency to include release dates in product rendering images. However, if the Galaxy Unpacked event is held on August 3 as previously reported, there is criticism that the gap until the release on the 28th of the same month is long. It is expected that the recent semiconductor chip shortage has had an impact.
The Galaxy Watch4 Classic is expected to offer heart rate, electrocardiogram (ECG), body fat measurement functions, as well as fitness tracking features. However, non-invasive blood glucose measurement is not expected to be applied this time.
The price of the Classic model is estimated to start at $500. The Galaxy Watch3, released in general and active models, started at a retail price of $399.
