[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Changwon City in Gyeongnam held a special lecture by a famous ssireum wrestler on the 30th at the Masanhappo-gu Office large conference room with the purpose of creating 'Ssireum Sanctuary, Changwon.'
The lecturer, 'Bearded Champion' Lee Seungsam, Vice Chairman of the Changwon City Ssireum Promotion Council (former Secretary General of the Korea Ssireum Association), gave a special lecture to about 90 citizens and general public on the introduction to ssireum, the background of his nickname 'Bearded Champion,' and his diverse experiences as a ssireum coach and ssireum administrator.
During the Q&A session, he emphasized that the 'dream of becoming a champion' is achievable by overcoming slumps and equipping oneself with 'special moves' to compensate for physical weaknesses.
He also highlighted the 'character' of ssireum athletes as the reason why Masan ssireum is loved, urging not only athletes but also coaches to possess proper qualities.
Champion Lee Seungsam is known as the 'Bearded Champion' and 'Master of Reversals,' having won the Halla Champion title three times and the Cheonha Champion first rank twice as a ssireum wrestler.
He serves as Vice Chairman of the Changwon City Ssireum Promotion Council to support city administration efforts to make his hometown Changwon the 'Ssireum Sanctuary.'
On the 21st, a ssireum special lecture by 'Master of Unorthodox Ssireum' Mo Jeuk, and on the 28th, by 'Bongo Champion' Kim Jongyeol are scheduled.
