[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] The industry with the highest number of security breach incidents both domestically and internationally in the first half of this year was found to be the manufacturing sector.
On the 30th, ADT Caps released the 2021 first half security trend report containing these findings.
According to the report, domestic manufacturing companies experienced numerous cases of information leakage through ransomware, resulting in the highest incident rate of 29.5%. Internationally, ransomware attacks targeting social infrastructure such as water supply facilities and oil pipeline companies were reported, indicating that hacking attacks on manufacturing facilities are becoming more active.
'Credential Stuffing' was analyzed as a major cause of breach incidents. This method involves using accounts obtained from one site to attack other sites. It is advised to use different passwords for each site and to change passwords regularly.
Network attacks targeting the Digital Workplace, which has accelerated due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, have increased significantly. Attacks targeting home networks last year increased about threefold compared to the previous year. VPNs (Virtual Private Networks), whose usage has increased due to remote work, have become a primary target for hackers, leading to a noticeable rise in breach incidents. Individuals and companies using VPNs need to apply security patches for server vulnerabilities and use multi-factor authentication as countermeasures.
This report was published based on the analysis of ADT Caps EQST (Experts, Qualified Security Team) group. EQST is the largest white-hat hacker group in Korea, analyzing and responding to breach threats including penetration testing, security vulnerabilities, and attack patterns.
Lee Jae-woo, head of ADT Caps InfoSec EQST Business Group, stated, "As the transition to the Digital Workplace is rapid due to drastic changes in the work environment, the speed of evolution of security threats is also accelerating. EQST will solidify its position as an industry-leading leader by diagnosing security vulnerabilities and providing various guides for response."
