[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Samsung Electronics announced on the 30th that it will hold the '2021 Samsung Junior SW Creation Contest' for teenagers starting next month.
The Samsung Junior SW Creation Contest is a competition that Samsung Electronics has been conducting since 2015 to discover and nurture future software talents. Participants are required to identify inconveniences or problems in daily life and propose solutions using software.
Until last year, 10,354 teams comprising 30,967 teenagers participated in the contest. This year, the theme is 'A Better Future Made with Software.' Anyone interested in software from 4th grade elementary school to middle and high school students can participate.
Samsung Electronics structured the contest process so that teenagers can easily learn software by participating even if they do not know much about software, as long as they have ideas. This includes 'design thinking' education to find and solve problems from the user's perspective, as well as learning coding, open source, and copyright. Considering the COVID-19 situation, all contest processes will be conducted online.
Samsung Electronics will select a total of 11 teams, including 1 grand prize team, 3 excellence award teams, 3 merit award teams, 3 encouragement award teams, and 1 empathy award team, and will give prize money and IT products as awards. Schools of the winning teams will also receive laptops, tablets, and other devices. Additionally, Samsung Electronics software developers will provide mentoring to teams that advance to the finals. Employees plan to work with participating teams to develop ideas and provide feedback on software development.
The contest finals will be held until October, and the awards ceremony is scheduled for November. Teenagers wishing to participate can apply on the Samsung Junior SW Creation Contest website from the 1st to 4 p.m. on the 21st of next month.
