[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] LG Electronics announced on the 30th that it will officially launch the premium LCD TV 'LG QNED MiniLED' equipped with mini LED technology.
The product will be introduced sequentially in major global markets such as North America, Japan, Europe, and Korea, starting with supply to major North American retailers this week. Three series of QNED MiniLED models will be released according to resolution (8K·4K), size (86, 75, 65 inches), and specifications. There are seven models for the domestic market.
LG QNED MiniLED applies mini LED light sources and LG's proprietary wide color gamut (WCG) technology called 'Quantum Dot NanoCell Color Technology.' LG Electronics applied mini LEDs, which significantly reduce the size of the light source compared to conventional LCD TVs, to the backlight component that emits light behind the LCD TV screen, and greatly increased the number of light sources. The 86-inch 8K resolution model has about 30,000 light sources and 2,500 local dimming zones.
LG Electronics explained, "The contrast ratio, a chronic weakness of LCD TVs, has been improved more than 10 times compared to previous models." Quantum Dot NanoCell Color Technology, which simultaneously utilizes quantum dot and nano cell materials, expresses accurate and rich colors. LG Electronics added that LG QNED MiniLED is the first product to use this technology simultaneously.
LG QNED MiniLED received certification from the global testing and certification organization Intertek for meeting 100% in 'color volume,' which measures the ability to express the rich colors of the original video without distortion, and 'color consistency,' which ensures consistent color expression even at 30 degrees left and right from the front. It also obtained SGS eco-friendly certification, which evaluates eco-friendly design, resource efficiency, and reduction of harmful substances.
LG Electronics has strengthened its premium TV lineup, following OLED TVs with LG QNED MiniLED and LG NanoCell TVs. The domestic shipment price of LG QNED MiniLED ranges from 5.09 million to 16.8 million KRW for 8K models and from 3.19 million to 8.2 million KRW for 4K models.
Baek Seon-pil, Executive Director of TV Product Planning at LG Electronics, emphasized, "LG QNED MiniLED is a product that has reached the pinnacle of LCD TV evolution in light control and color expression," adding, "We will further solidify our leadership in the premium TV market, led by the top-tier LG OLED TV lineup."
