Women's Emergency Hotline 1366 '20th Anniversary Ceremony' Held Online

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Women's Emergency Hotline 1366, which supports victims of crimes against women through 24-hour counseling, has celebrated its 20th anniversary.


According to the Women's Emergency Hotline 1366 Jeonnam Center on the 29th, the hotline will hold a commemorative ceremony on the 1st of next month under the theme "From Crisis to Hope" to review its 20 years of activities, conduct self-assessment and diagnosis, and establish a hopeful vision.


The event will be broadcast live on YouTube from 2 PM to 4 PM.


The ceremony will include congratulatory videos from the Minister of Gender Equality and Family and the Commissioner General of the National Police Agency, a photo exhibition titled "1366 Through the Years," and awards for long-term employees who have worked with 1366 for 20 years.


In particular, the event will review changes in violence against women based on 20 years of counseling statistics and analysis, examining evolving types of victimization and support measures. Additionally, results from a survey conducted among 1366 workers nationwide will be announced.


The Women's Emergency Hotline 1366 has provided 24-hour uninterrupted counseling to support victims of violence against women, handling 316,618 cases in 2020, averaging over 26,000 consultations per month.


Among these, domestic violence accounted for 180,111 cases (56.9%), sexual violence 19,795 cases (6.3%), prostitution-related cases 3,712 (3.2%), dating violence and stalking 10,265 (3.2%) and 1,175 (0.4%) respectively, and digital sex crimes 6,223 cases (2.0%).


In emergency shelters, 5,879 victims and their companions were admitted annually, receiving protection for a total of 14,165 days.


1366 operates 18 centers across 16 cities and provinces nationwide.


Kim Younghee, Director of the Jeonnam Center, stated, "We protect the human rights of women victims of violence by providing 24/7 telephone counseling, emergency protection, and various customized support services, including connections to related organizations, so that women in the Jeonnam region can receive help anytime, 365 days a year."
