Will the 'Galaxy M52' Be the First Samsung Phone Equipped with Snapdragon 778G?

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Qualcomm's 'Snapdragon 778G' is expected to be adopted in Samsung Electronics' budget smartphone 'Galaxy M52 5G,' which is anticipated to be released within this year.

On the 28th (local time), IT specialized media SamMobile cited the performance measurement program Geekbench and reported that Qualcomm's Snapdragon 778G will be adopted as the application processor (AP) for Samsung's Galaxy M52 5G (model number SM-M526BR).

The Snapdragon 778G is not Qualcomm's flagship chipset but is a premium processor built using TSMC's 6-nanometer (nm) process technology. The Snapdragon 778G offers the ability to simultaneously capture a total of three photos or videos through a triple image signal processor (ISP) for wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle, and zoom lenses. Users can shoot with three lenses at once, and the best shots from each lens are integrated into a single professional-quality video.

Additionally, equipped with the Qualcomm Hexagon 770 processor and the latest 6th generation Qualcomm AI engine, it provides up to 12 TOPs and double the performance improvement compared to its predecessor by enhancing watt-per-performance. It also offers Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, including Variable Rate Shading (VRS) and Qualcomm Game Quick Touch. VRS, implemented by the Qualcomm Adreno 642L GPU, designates and groups shaded pixels in different game scenes to reduce developers' GPU workload while maintaining visual accuracy and significantly reducing power consumption.

Meanwhile, the predecessor of the Galaxy M52, the 'Galaxy M51,' released in August last year, was notable for its large-capacity battery. The battery capacity of 7000 milliampere-hours (mAh) is among the largest for smartphones, and it supports 25-watt (W) fast charging, allowing a full charge in 2 hours. The Galaxy M52 is also expected to be equipped with a high-capacity battery like its predecessor, and considering the demand for mid-range 5G smartphones in the European market, it is expected to be released in Europe as well.
