Through this supplementary budget, various festival and sports event projects that have been difficult to proceed due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic will be reduced or canceled, and the budget will be evenly distributed to COVID-19 prevention, revitalization of the local economy, and residents' safety and welfare projects.

As a result, Dongjak-gu's budget scale has been set at a total of approximately 768.74 billion KRW, including about 749.83 billion KRW in the general account and about 18.91 billion KRW in the special account.

Earlier, in April, the district promoted projects focused on supporting low-income vulnerable groups, middle-aged people, the unemployed, and small business owners to revitalize the stagnant local economy through the first supplementary budget of about 4.86 billion KRW, changes to the operation plan of the small and medium enterprise development fund worth 2.1 billion KRW, and approval of contingency fund expenditures amounting to 2.4 billion KRW.

First, through the supplementary budget, the district will take a more proactive approach to COVID-19 response. Budgets have been allocated for the shuttle bus operation of the vaccination center, which has received great support from residents, amounting to 226.8 million KRW; COVID-19 related living support expenses of 617.9 million KRW; operation of the district disinfection team with about 436.5 million KRW; and about 1.72 billion KRW for infectious disease prevention, including the operation of temporary screening clinics and vaccination centers.

Additionally, to expand the implementation of snow removal improvement measures, 985.9 million KRW has been allocated; 140 million KRW for bicycle insurance enrollment for all residents; approximately 373 million KRW for environmental improvement construction at Sadang Youth Culture House, Sangdo 4-dong Youth Reading Room, and senior welfare facilities; and about 1.036 billion KRW for the undergrounding of overhead distribution lines, all aimed at enhancing residents' safety and convenience.

In particular, notable projects that revitalize the local economy include 121 million KRW for region-specific jobs selected through resident job skill enhancement and job creation project contests; 298.8 million KRW for public job support such as public work projects; 187.5 million KRW for youth policy support following the selection of the youth center operation project; and 300 million KRW for road paving design at Namseong Sagye Market to revitalize traditional markets.

Furthermore, budgets have been allocated for leading the creation of a smart urban environment, including 1.3925 billion KRW for the smart city solution expansion project following the final selection in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Smart City Challenge contest; 70 million KRW for virtual reality (VR) sports room installation support; and 28.5 million KRW for the creation of a smart K-library.

Dongjak-gu Mayor Changwoo Lee stated, “With this supplementary budget, we will comfort residents, small business owners, and unemployed youth who are struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, and create a livable city Dongjak that leaves no neglect in revitalizing the local economy as well as residents’ health, safety, and welfare.”
