[Asia Economy Reporter Kim So-young] A woman directly caught a man in his 20s who urinated toward her while she was standing in front of him on an escalator at a subway station, dragged him to the station office, and reported him to the police.
On the 25th, the Michuhol Police Station in Incheon stated that they are investigating a man in his 20s, Mr. A, on charges of public indecency.
According to a YTN report on the same day, Mr. A is accused of urinating on the back of a woman who was ahead of him while going down the escalator at Juan Station on Incheon Subway Line 2 around 10:23 p.m. on the 23rd.
The released closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage shows Mr. A quickly following behind the woman who had boarded the subway station escalator before him. Then, he is seen putting his hand inside his pants and looking around to check if there were people nearby before urinating.
The victim, Ms. B, who noticed this, fought physically with Mr. A as he tried to escape and personally dragged him to the station office to report to the police.
Ms. B recounted the situation, saying, "Suddenly, I felt a hot liquid and heard a sound from behind, and my clothes felt wet, so I turned around. I tried to catch this person to ask the station staff for help, but he tried to run away."
The victim said she felt a sense of shame similar to being sexually harassed due to Mr. A’s actions. Ms. B shared, "I developed trauma and now have a habit of constantly looking back because I feel like someone is behind me. I sweat a lot whenever the subway comes, and even now, I keep getting goosebumps and feel scared. I never know when something like this might happen to me again," expressing her feelings.
At the time, Mr. A was reportedly intoxicated. The police, who responded to the report, arrested Mr. A on the spot on charges of public indecency.
A police official said, "We confirmed Mr. A’s identity at the time of arrest and released him for now," adding, "We will review whether charges of sexual assault can be applied." The police plan to summon Mr. A soon to investigate the exact circumstances and motive of the crime.
Meanwhile, a YouTube channel featuring broadcaster Jang Sung-kyu received backlash for posting a joking comment on the YTN report video. A comment saying, "Is there such a mutation?" was posted under the channel name 'Jang Sung-kyu Universe.'
This sparked angry responses from netizens, such as "Why post such a joke comment on a clear crime video?" and "The victim must have trauma and this is a serious issue, so doing this is really wrong."
