Operation of Modular Temporary Screening Clinics in Seocho-gu Allowing Medical Staff to Work Without Protective Suits

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] The scorching heat exceeding 30°C poses a significant obstacle to healthcare workers who have been battling COVID-19 for the past year and a half. Temporary screening clinics, operating in poor facilities such as tents and containers with inadequate air conditioning, require staff to wear protective suits, making it unsurprising if medical personnel collapse from exhaustion at any time.

In response, Seocho District Office (Mayor Eunhee Cho) Health Center replaced the temporary screening clinic at the Express Bus Terminal from the existing tents and containers to an 'advanced modular non-contact screening clinic,' starting operation on the 25th to prevent exhaustion and infection among healthcare workers.

The modular non-contact screening clinic allows staff to work in a positively pressurized, air-conditioned indoor environment separated from those being tested for COVID-19, enabling comfortable work without protective suits.

Additionally, the previously manual registration of testee information has been computerized, improving work efficiency.

Moreover, the modular design enabled rapid installation within just four days, reducing inconvenience for citizens. It is also easy to dismantle and relocate, allowing storage and future installation at other locations after operations end.

Lee Jeong-ah, a nurse (41) working here, said, "The recent early heat and the heat radiating from the ground already make the inside of the protective suits feel like a steam room. I was worried about how to endure this summer, but with these improved comfortable facilities, my concerns have greatly lessened. I expect the testing speed to increase as I can work in better condition."

Meanwhile, Seocho District produced the 'state-of-the-art untact screening clinic' last September, attracting nationwide attention and benchmarking inquiries, and has received various external awards.

Seocho District Mayor Eunhee Cho stated, "The fight against COVID-19, which has lasted for a year and a half, is tough, but now healthcare workers also have to battle the heat. I hope the installation of the non-contact modular screening clinic allows medical staff to work in a better environment. The health and safety of healthcare workers directly lead to the health and safety of citizens. We will provide the best support to all workers, including healthcare personnel."
