SK Rent-a-Car Holds Jeju Electric Vehicle Complex Inauguration Ceremony: "Building a New Mobility Ecosystem"

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] SK Rent-a-Car, which announced plans to build the largest electric vehicle (EV) exclusive complex in Korea by 2025 on Jeju Island, recently held a proclamation ceremony for the establishment of the 'SK Rent-a-Car EV Park' at its Jeju branch, the company announced on the 27th.

Through the EV Park, SK Rent-a-Car aims to establish a new mobility ecosystem on Jeju Island and strengthen ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management.

To this end, SK Rent-a-Car will invest a total of 40.6 billion KRW in its Jeju branch to build an EV-exclusive rental center and a complex cultural space covering more than 7,000 pyeong (23,140㎡), and plans to replace all 3,000 internal combustion engine vehicles with electric vehicles by 2025. Earlier in April, the company signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) to establish a 7,200 kW-class charging facility.

SK Rent-a-Car will also build a complex cultural space where people and electric vehicles can recharge and relax together. For this purpose, they are in joint development discussions with KEPCO and the coffee specialty brand 'Terarosa.'

The 3,000 electric vehicles to be operated on Jeju Island by 2025 are expected by SK Rent-a-Car to reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions by 10,000 tons and decrease air pollutants such as nitrogen oxides by 40 tons. Through these efforts, the company plans to participate in Jeju's 'Carbon Free Island (CFI) 2030' initiative while also contributing to enhancing ESG management performance promoted by the SK Group.

Hwang Il-moon, CEO of SK Rent-a-Car, said, "The establishment of SK Rent-a-Car EV Park is to lead the domestic electric vehicle market in line with the full-scale growth of the EV market and to faithfully implement the practical ESG management emphasized by the SK Group." He added, "As a rental car company that accompanies customers from the beginning to the end of their travels, we will create an EV-exclusive complex that delivers customer satisfaction and future value."

Meanwhile, SK Rent-a-Car plans to run the 'Charge More, Earn E' promotion throughout July, offering four months of free charging benefits to new long-term rental customers of three electric vehicle models: Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia Niro EV, and Renault Zoe. Customers who sign contracts during the event period will be able to use unlimited fast chargers operated by KEPCO and the Ministry of Environment free of charge for four months after vehicle delivery through the 'EV All-in-One Charging Card' provided by SK Rent-a-Car.
