Countdown to the Passage of the Yeosun Incident Special Act in the June National Assembly Plenary Session

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The Special Act on the Investigation of the Truth and Restoration of Honor for the Victims of the Yeosu-Suncheon 10·19 Incident (hereinafter referred to as the Yeosun Incident Special Act) passed the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee on the 25th.
The Legislation and Judiciary Committee held a plenary session and deliberated on the Yeosun Incident Special Act, which had been reviewed by the Administrative Safety Committee, and approved it.
Accordingly, after 73 years, the Yeosun Incident Special Act now only awaits approval at the June plenary session of the National Assembly.
Heo Seok, Mayor of Suncheon, expressed a welcoming stance, saying, "The earnest hope for truth investigation and restoration of honor is being realized for the bereaved families who have held their breath for 73 years. I hope the enactment of the Yeosun Incident Special Act will bring great comfort to the deeply wounded lives of the bereaved families." He added, "With the enactment of the Yeosun Incident Special Act, Suncheon City will do its best together with the bereaved families and the Yeosun 10·19 Civil-Government Council to ensure that the resonance of peace and reconciliation in Suncheon and the eastern Jeonnam region spreads nationwide."
