[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] The Democratic Party of Korea has decided to hold the presidential candidate primary election 180 days before the presidential election as stipulated in the current party regulations, without postponing it.

Ko Yong-jin, the senior spokesperson of the Democratic Party, told reporters after the Supreme Council meeting on the day, "The Democratic Party has decided to hold the primary election 180 days before the presidential election according to the current party constitution to select the presidential candidate." This decision was made unanimously by the Supreme Council.

Senior Spokesperson Ko said, "There were naturally opposing opinions. Some Supreme Council members advocated for postponement, but all agreed to follow the current party constitution with the spirit of unity and to move forward as one team without division."

He added, "If we proceed with the current plan, there will be no separate party committee procedures," and "Changing the primary schedule could cause further controversy, and this was thoroughly discussed at the party members' meeting." He emphasized, "Please view today's decision as a declaration of the will to move forward without further delay."
